Wedding Celebrant

Celebrate Your Lives Together

Congratulations you are getting married! You may be wondering what is a wedding celebrant is and if a celebrant led wedding is for you? A wedding celebrant creates and writes a ceremony that is just for you, based on your love story and can include any fun elements you can think of – anything is possible!

Your day will be full of love, laughter and happy tears.  No other couple will have a ceremony like you, and it will certainly be rememberable.

Why a Celebrant?

With a celebrant led wedding, you aren’t restricted with having your wedding at a licensed venue.  So, if you want to celebrate your marriage in an alternative location such as a rustic barn, a fabulous garden, a grand castle, your imagination is the limit, you can!  You can also incorporate diverse cultures and beliefs.

Your bespoke ceremony will ooze your personalities and can be a fun way to include your guests if you wish.  You can add traditional elements, like hand-fasting and jumping the broom, or modern elements like ring-warming, sand-ceremonies, mixing cocktails or karaoke sing-alongs.

The Service I Provide

I will spend time getting to know you, as I feel its paramount that you feel comfortable with me, after all, you will be sharing the most important words of your life in front of me!

Telling your love story is my dream job and I will do so with admiration and enthusiasm.  I will collaborate closely with you to make sure your wedding ceremony is everything you want.  I can help you pick readings, help you write your wedding promises, suggest different elements and ideas and how to ultimately give you the best wedding ceremony ever!

Our first date!

Getting to know you and hearing all your ideas and wishes for your day.  I will send you a couple’s questionnaire to fill in before we meet in person.  To give you the best ceremony, I need to know everything about you and your love story.

Writing your ceremony

Based on the information from the questionnaire and our time together, I will start to write your dream ceremony.  I will keep you updated with the drafts and make sure you are happy with every detail of the celebration and that it’s what you envisaged your day to be.

The final script

We will meet up again and go through your ceremony and do a celebratory dance as it will be perfect, and just how you wanted it!  I am happy to do a rehearsal if desired at a day and time to suit.

Today's the day!

I will be at the venue at least an hour before the ceremony and can run through on the day anything specific or if anyone wants to rehearse.  I will officiate the ceremony and after your amazing ceremony, I am happy to stay as long as you wish for me to be there.

Common Questions

What is a Celebrant?

A celebrant is someone who writes and officiates the celebration of milestone events, such as weddings, funerals, vow renewals and naming ceremonies.  Each ceremony is tailored and uniquely written for the family or couple.

Are you a qualified trained Celebrant?

Yes, I trained and qualified with the United Kingdom Society of Celebrants (UKSOC).

Where are you based?

I am lucky enough to live in Somerset, close to the Devon border, so I do work across the Southwest.  If you do live further afield, I am happy to travel.

What is the difference between a Registrar and a Celebrant?

A Registrar will conduct several weddings in one day.  They will read from a set script, and you will have limited choices.  You will not know who will be marrying you until you meet them on your wedding day.   As your celebrant, I will get to know you very well before your wedding day and your ceremony will be one of a kind!  As I only do one wedding per day, I am extremely flexible in timing, locations and will always offer a rehearsal!

Is a Celebrant led wedding legal?

Sadly not – but watch this space!  You will still need to do your legal bit at the registry office, which can be done prior or after your celebrant led ceremony.  I would recommend having a two-by-two ceremony at the registry office which is fairly inexpensive.  You don’t even have to exchange wedding rings and save that for your celebrant led ceremony!

Can we get married anywhere?

Of course, and that’s the wonderful thing about Celebrant led weddings, you can have your wedding ceremony anywhere!  With a legal ceremony you are restricted to a licensed venue with a roof or a place of worship.  So, if you fancy having your ceremony in your Auntie’s garden, in a castle, museum, pub or in the woods – you can go for it!

Are there any restrictions on readings or poems that we can have ?

No, there are no restrictions on readings or poems that you can have in your ceremony and there are so many to choose from!  Why not use quotes from your favourite films, songs or books?  I am here to help you find the right words to match your theme and tone of your wedding.

Can we incorporate religious elements into our ceremony?

Yes, absolutely!  If you wish to include elements of your religion such as prayers, hymns or blessings, I am happy to incorporate them into your ceremony!

Can we encompass symbolic elements into our ceremony?

Yes, with a celebrant led wedding, you can include symbolic elements like hand-fasting, a sand ceremony, a tea ceremony, unity candles, ring-warming, cider-blending – the list is endless, and I am happy to talk more about these and other creative ideas!

Can we write our own wedding vows?

Of course!  I am happy to guide you with helping you write your own wedding vows.  If you don’t feel comfortable writing your own words, then I can write them for you!

We don’t like speaking in public!

Don’t worry!  I will be by your side, every step of the way!  You can read your vows yourselves, or repeat a line after me or simply say “I do!” .

Do you offer same sex weddings?

Indeed I do – love is love right?

What do you wear?

I always wear an outfit that compliments your wedding colours and theme.  I think there’s nothing worse than seeing an officiant wearing clashing colours at a wedding!  I do like wearing bright colours and big earrings and I even once dressed up as a fairy godmother for a wedding held on a theatre stage!  Whatever your theme is, don’t worry, I will always seek approval for my outfit from you first!

Can you recommend any photographers?

Of course! We have many wonderful photographers in the South West.

A special mention to the following photographers, who I have had the pleasure to work alongside.  Thank you for letting me include some photos of the weddings we have worked together on, for my website!
